Student/Parent Information

The Bendigo Technical Education College (BTEC) is a Centre of Excellence for skills training of young people taking up careers in the traditional trades.

Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASBA)

All students enrolled at the BTEC will be an Australian School Based Apprentice. Students entering the college will have completed Year 10. ASBAs will be offered in the following trade areas:

  • Engineering
  • Building & Construction
  • Electro-technology
  • Commercial Cookery
  • Automotive

Curriculum

Students will be enrolled in either the VCE or VCAL together with a nationally recognized Vocational Education & Training (VET) qualification.Students will also undertake part-time paid employment as an Australian School Based Apprentice.A general guide to a student’s work load would be:

  • 60% VCE/VCAL studies
  • 20% Trade training (VET)
  • 20% Employment (ASBA)

The BTEC will teach Certificate II Business as VET in VCE, the employability skills to support their trade training, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Community Culture

The College will create a culture that supports young people in their final years of secondary education, taking their early steps in the world of paid employment and work. BTEC students will be engaged in programs that lead to a career with tremendous future opportunities. The College will provide individualised support and mentoring to each student.

Costs

Levies for the BTEC will be consistent with other Secondary Colleges and Registered Training Organisations across the region.

Uniform

Students will be required to wear the BTEC specific uniform when not at their Secondary College campus (ie during trade training, on-site with employer and at BTEC).
