A New Learning Environment

In March 2009 the Australian Technical College - Bendigo was integrated with Bendigo TAFE as the Bendigo Technical Education College, or BTEC.

The Bendigo TAFE Board, management and staff are very excited about accepting the ATC - Bendigo under their governance and are committed to ensuring that the new Bendigo Technical Education College continues to deliver the same level of opportunities and support to students, parents, businesses and schools. The new BTEC will also maintain an ongoing commitment to the highly successful and much sought after Community Project Program which involves students in building and construction projects and the provision of other services to Not For Profit organisations.

As a consequence of its integration with Bendigo TAFE, the new Bendigo Technical Education College will be able to provide a broader range of apprenticeships than previously offered by the ATC - Bendigo, as well as greater access for BTEC students to the state of the art specialist trade training facilities at Bendigo TAFEs Charleston Road Campus.

In the two years that the ATC - Bendigo operated, it established itself as an excellent option for Years 11 - 12 students, enabling them to commence a School Based Apprenticeship while completing their schooling. Through its strong links with industry, and its emphasis on employability and business skills, it provided an education and training option previously unavailable to young people in Bendigo.

Dr Louise Harvey, CEO of Bendigo TAFE said "I believe that the excellent track record of the ATC - Bendigo in the two years it was in existence is a testimony to the efforts and commitment of its industry led Board, and the professionalism of its staff."

"Everyone at Bendigo TAFE, including the staff from ATC - Bendigo who have taken up employment with Bendigo TAFE in the new Bendigo Technical Education College, look forward to building on its success," Dr Harvey said. Enrolments are now open for students looking for an alternative learning environment to the mainstream Years 11 - 12 studies.

The opportunity to complete their final years of schooling while undertaking an apprenticeship or a trade focussed program will ensure that graduates of the Bendigo Technical Education College have the best chance of succeeding in their chosen industry.
